How much does a nanny cost in Bangalore

A nanny in Bangalore is paid about ₹8,000 to ₹12,000 part-time, ₹16,000 to ₹20,000 full-time and ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 live-in. What moves the number, what is not included, and japa maid vs nanny.

A nanny in Bangalore is paid roughly ₹8,000 to ₹12,000 a month part-time, ₹16,000 to ₹20,000 full-time and ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 live-in, plus a room and meals for a live-in. Those are 2026 market ranges for what a household pays the nanny directly, and real offers land about 20 percent either way depending on the child's age, the hours and what else the role includes. The rest of this guide explains what moves the figure, what is usually left out of it, and how a nanny differs from a japa maid, since the two are often confused in the first weeks after a birth.

If you are comparing nanny pay with maids, cooks and elder-care attendants, the full table sits in our Bangalore maid salary guide. This page goes deeper on childcare only.

Part-time, full-time and live-in nanny pay

ArrangementTypical monthly payWhat you get
Part-time nanny (3 to 5 hours a day)₹8,000 to ₹12,000A fixed daily slot, such as the school-to-office gap or the morning routine
Full-time nanny (8 to 10 hours)₹16,000 to ₹20,000The whole working day; she goes home at night
Live-in nanny₹20,000 to ₹25,000 plus room and mealsAvailable across the day, night feeds by agreement, fixed rest hours and a weekly off

Part-time pay in Bangalore is set per slot rather than per hour. A nanny who comes from 2 pm to 6 pm every weekday to receive a child from the school van, give a meal and sit through homework sits near the lower end. A morning slot that starts at 6.30 am and includes getting a toddler dressed, fed and to preschool tends to cost more, because early starts are harder to fill.

Full-time is the most common arrangement for two working parents. The nanny arrives before you leave, stays through the day and hands over when you are home. The salary covers the child's routine: feeding, bathing, naps, play and tidying the child's things. Most full-time nannies in Bangalore expect Sunday off and a fixed finishing time. If your hours run past 7 pm regularly, say so before hiring. A late finish that was never discussed is the most common reason a nanny quits in the second month.

Live-in costs more in cash and also in what your home must provide. The nanny needs a private sleeping space, meals and genuine rest time. In return you get cover that does not end at 6 pm, which matters with a newborn or with parents who travel. A live-in nanny is on call through the evening rather than on duty around the clock. If you expect her to be awake for night feeds every night, the arrangement will not last, and the salary should reflect the broken sleep. The live-in maid checklist sets out what a live-in helper's room and rest arrangement should look like, and the same rules apply to a nanny.

What changes the number

The child's age moves the salary more than anything else. A nanny for a newborn or an infant under one year asks for more than a nanny for a four-year-old. The work is continuous, the stakes on hygiene and feeding are higher and fewer candidates are confident with a baby that small. Once a child is in preschool the job becomes lighter for part of the day, and the pay reflects that.

Hours come next. Every hour past a ten-hour day should move the figure. A nanny who is asked to stay "just until we get back" three nights a week is doing overtime, and if it is not paid she will price it into her next job offer.

Cooking for the child is a separate duty. Preparing purees, khichdi or a toddler's meals is usually included if it is agreed up front. Cooking for the household is a cook's job and should be paid as one, or left out. The same applies to cleaning beyond the child's room and things. A nanny who also does the family's utensils and clothes is doing a nanny's job plus a part-time maid's, and the two together cost more than either alone. Our maid duties checklist is a practical way to draw that line before day one.

Weekend and holiday cover is the fourth lever. A six-day week with Sunday off is standard. If you need Saturday and Sunday, agree either a higher salary or a rotating off day. Public holidays and a week around Diwali or the nanny's main festival are normally paid leave.

Two smaller factors add to the figure. A nanny who speaks English or your home language comfortably, and who can follow a paediatrician's instructions on medicine timing, is worth more than a candidate who cannot. Twins or two children under five push the salary up, since the job is close to two jobs.

What is not included in the salary

The salary is paid by you to the nanny each month. It does not include:

  • Meals during working hours, which a full-time or live-in nanny expects the household to provide.
  • Travel. A part-time or full-time nanny commutes at her own cost, and candidates living far from your locality will ask for more or decline. Homes in Whitefield, Sarjapur Road and along the outer ring tend to quote higher for this reason.
  • A festival bonus. In Bangalore this is usually around one month's salary once a year, often at Diwali, and is expected rather than optional.
  • Paid leave. Two to three days a month, or a block around a festival, is the working norm.
  • Any agency placement fee, which is separate from the salary and paid once.

For a live-in nanny placed through EzyHelpers the one-time fee is ₹25,000 plus 18 percent GST. That covers document and background verification, a scored skills assessment and an in-person interview before the candidate reaches your home. Live-in placements carry a 7-day cooling-off period and a free replacement on the 3-month and 11-month plans. Fees for full-time and part-time nannies depend on the role and we confirm them on a call. The nanny pays nothing to us at any stage.

Japa maid or nanny: which one do you need

The words get mixed up because both involve a baby. They are different jobs with different pay.

A japa maid is a postnatal specialist hired for the first 40 days or so after delivery. She looks after two people, the mother and the newborn: postnatal massage, recovery meals, help with feeding, and night care of the baby. The engagement is short and almost always live-in. Details are on our japa maid service page, and the differences are laid out in Japa maid vs nanny vs babysitter.

A nanny looks after the child, usually from a few months old onward, for months or years. She does not provide care for the mother. The nanny ranges on this page are for that role. Japa pay is agreed separately and depends on the family's requirements, so we confirm it on a call rather than publishing a figure.

If you are a few weeks from delivery, the practical order is a japa maid for the first six weeks and then a nanny. Some families keep the same person if she is willing and suitable for both, though the skills overlap only partly and it is worth interviewing her again for the nanny role rather than assuming.

Paying at the top of the range is usually cheaper

A nanny who leaves after four months costs more than the ₹2,000 a month you saved by paying at the bottom of the range. You lose the search, the re-verification, a settling period for the child and the days you or your partner take off in between. Children notice the change more than adults do.

Where budgets are tight, I would protect three things before trimming the salary: a fixed salary date, a genuine weekly off and a finishing time that is respected. Nannies stay in homes that are predictable. A slightly lower wage paid on the first of every month with Sundays off holds a good nanny longer than a higher wage paid late and stretched with unpaid evenings.

Roughly ₹8,000 to ₹12,000 a month part-time, ₹16,000 to ₹20,000 full-time and ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 live-in, plus a room and meals for a live-in nanny. These are 2026 Bangalore ranges paid by the household to the nanny, and offers move about 20 percent either way with the child's age and the hours.

Yes. A nanny for a baby under one year is paid at the top of the range or above, because the work is continuous, hygiene and feeding carry more risk and fewer candidates are confident with a very small baby.

Occasionally, by agreement. A live-in nanny is available through the evening and can help with the odd night feed, but she needs fixed rest hours and a weekly off. Regular night duty every night should be agreed separately and paid for, or it will not last.

Cooking for the child is usually included if agreed up front. Cooking for the household and general cleaning are separate jobs and either cost extra or should be left out. Agree the exact task list before day one.

No. A japa maid looks after the mother and the newborn for the first 40 days or so after delivery and is almost always live-in. A nanny looks after the child for months or years and does not care for the mother. Japa pay is agreed separately and confirmed on a call.

For a live-in nanny the one-time placement fee is ₹25,000 plus 18 percent GST, with a 7-day cooling-off period and a free replacement on the 3-month and 11-month plans. Fees for full-time and part-time nannies depend on the role and are confirmed on a call. The nanny pays nothing.
