Full-time chauffeur vs app-based cabs: the real cost comparison

App-based cabs look cheaper until you count the mornings a driver cancels, the surge on a rainy evening, and the fact that a different stranger sits behind the wheel every day. A full-time chauffeur is a fixed monthly cost with a different set of benefits. Which one is right depends on how much you drive and how much reliability and discretion matter to you.

Two different cost shapes

A chauffeur is a fixed monthly commitment. You pay the same salary whether you use the car for two hours or ten, plus running costs like fuel and maintenance. Cabs are pay-per-ride. Light users pay little; heavy users pay a lot, and the total swings with demand.

We do not publish a driver salary figure, because it moves with experience, hours, whether the driver stays live-in, and the city. The exact salary is agreed directly with the driver and confirmed on a consultation call. For live-in placements, the one-time placement fee is ₹25,000 + 18% GST, with a 7-day cooling-off period and free replacements on the 3-month and 11-month plans. The salary is paid by you, directly to the driver, each month.

The real comparison is not one rate against another. It is a predictable monthly figure against a variable one that rises exactly when you most need a ride.

Where a chauffeur pulls ahead

The same vetted driver every day. You get one person who learns your routes, your timings, and your preferences. With cabs, every trip starts with a new driver and a fresh explanation. Our chauffeur service runs identity and Aadhaar checks and reference calls before anyone drives for you.

Reliability at fixed hours. A chauffeur is there for the 7am school run and the late airport pickup. There is no cancellation at the door and no waiting through surge pricing while you are already late.

Discretion. A regular driver who knows your household handles a private conversation, a business call in the back seat, or the school pickup with a level of confidentiality a rotating pool of strangers cannot offer.

Car care. A chauffeur looks after your vehicle: fuel, cleaning, service reminders, tyre and fluid checks. Over a year that attention keeps the car in better condition than it would be otherwise.

Safety. One vetted, known driver is a different proposition from an unknown one each trip, particularly for children travelling alone, elderly parents, or late-night journeys.

Where cabs still make sense

Cabs win for light or irregular use. If you drive a few times a week, have no fixed schedule, and mostly take short trips, paying a full monthly salary for a car that sits idle makes no sense. The pay-per-ride model fits low mileage well, and you carry none of the running costs or the responsibility of employing someone.

Cabs also suit people who do not own a car, or who only need a vehicle occasionally and are content to absorb the odd cancellation or surge.

A recommendation

If you have a daily school run, a fixed commute, elderly parents who need reliable transport, or a car you would rather have properly looked after, a full-time chauffeur is the better call. The value is not a lower per-trip cost. It is the same trusted person, ready at the hours you need, without the daily uncertainty.

If your driving is occasional and unscheduled, stay with cabs. You would be paying for availability you would not use.

For households in between, a part-time or shared arrangement can bridge the two. If you want to work out which fits, tell us your weekly driving pattern and any fixed timings, and we can match you with a vetted driver and give you a realistic salary band before you decide.
